7 days in Sardinia: how to plan a first trip

A practical way to see enough of the island without turning your holiday into a week of driving.

Do not try to cover the whole island

Sardinia is large enough that a seven-day trip usually works better around one or two bases. Pick the coast that matches your priorities, then build day trips around it.

Option 1 — south & east

Use Cagliari or Villasimius for the first part, then move toward Cala Gonone or Baunei if the Gulf of Orosei is a priority. This keeps the trip focused on beaches, city time and the east coast.

Option 2 — north & west

Pair Alghero with Gallura or the Sinis depending on whether you want La Maddalena and north-east coves or a quieter west-coast finish.

Keep one flexible day

Leave one day lightly planned so weather, sea conditions or a place you discover locally can change the order without breaking the trip.

Book in the right order

Choose your bases first, then reserve the stays and any capacity-limited experiences that matter most. Fill the rest with flexible beaches, towns and viewpoints.
